We understand the importance of having the opportunity for at home pet euthanasia following the devastating experience of going through it ourselves
Rita had come to Carlos in 2010 when she was only approx 5-6 weeks old. She was rescued by a fellow student at University and Carlos immediately jumped to take Rita From that moment the 2 were inseparable, she had her doggy passport and travelled through most European countries She also travelled with Carlos all over the UK when he locumed at different practices
In 2022 Rita suddenly took a very bad turn one afternoon in the garden. Following an overnight stay in intensive care at the vets, she lost control of her back legs and we knew that she was not going to get better. Even though the hospital she was treated in was amazing, we knew that she was uncomfortable and distressed in the environment. As Carlos is a vet we were fortunate to be able to make the decision to bring her home to put to sleep. As soon as she was home in her own familiar surroundings, she stopped crying and was instantly relaxed and peaceful. After we gave her a final meal of a chicken dinner, we then gathered as a family in the garden and all sat with her while saying goodbye. Even though it was a very difficult moment as a family, the comfort we had of being able to do this at home gave us some relief.
Having worked in practices we knew that they do not always have the resources to be able to provide that experience, particularly on evenings and weekends. This is when we decided to set up Last Wishes Mobile Vet, in hope to allow families to have the same peaceful experience at your own pace.
